Here is a good example of what I mean. This is a true story of a friend of mine who is also a ghostwriter – although not an experienced one.

A prospect approached my friend to enquire about his ghostwriting services. My friend replied with his template email explaining his article writing service, writing ebooks etc…

The prospect asked for 10 articles to be written on online games. My friend accepted and the prospect became a client.

When the articles were delivered, the client was not pleased. He expected tips on how to play some online games and also how to play online games with Xbox and PlayStation. This was not mentioned.  My friend wrote about flash games you could play on websites. The client wanted the articles revised and gave more details of what he wanted.

My friend practically re-wrote all the articles. Spent twice the time and didn’t please his client. The client had to extend his wait for his articles and spent more time explaining what revisions he wanted.

Both parties lost. I doubt the person will ask my friend to write for him again.

A Ghostwriter should communicate with his customers before starting to write. This would have eliiminated any misunderstanding. He should also ask the client for keywords he wanted for the articles. This would have helped a lot on what was needed.

Finally, the ghostwriter should provide examples of article titles and ask if they were acceptable.

Both parties are to be blamed. However a professional ghostwriter should have guided the client to tell him what their requirements were.
